Barrackpore Municipality came into existence in the year of 1916 under the Bengal Municipal Act. BM- Barrackpore Municipality has been set up with a total area of 10.16 square kilometers. The total population of Barrackpore Municipality is one lakh fifty-two thousand seven hundred eighty-three residents. The total of Barrackpore municipality has been divided into twenty-four wards.
The corporation is administrated by the elected board of councilors and headed by a chairman who is assisted by the Chairman -in- Council consists of four members including vice chairman.
